This piece is one of the first of my series titled, 'Ways to Belong.' This series, from 2019, dives into my views of exiting a life of organized religion into one created completely for oneself, from scratch. This painting holds more symbolism than most. The rainbows on the eyelids are to represent the inherent knowing of one's identity and who they are from a young age. The child is also wearing a shirt with a heart on the sleeve. While the environment she is in seems colorful and bright, it might just be because she has closed her eyes.
