A collector of my work commissioned a portrait of her to tell a story at this point in her life and career. The portrait process began with taking reference photos, including clothing and jewelry that are personal to the client. After completing the figure portion of the painting, we had a back and forth regarding the background. The feathers in the background are a favorite motif of the client’s that holds personal meaning.

The title, ‘Be Still’, is taken directly from the tattoo on the figure’s arm.
